LED lights adapted to individual needs through the spectrum provide help for people with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or pigmentary retinopathy (RP).

Hereditary retinitis pigmentosa (RP) usually occurs between the third and fifth decade of life and rarely causes blindness. In Germany, about 30,000 to 40,000 people suffer from this disease.

"LED light sources now offer this possibility. We can specifically define the spectrum of the emitted light," said Professor of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the South Westphalian University of Applied Sciences, in charge of the Fraunhofer Center for Inorganic Phosphorus Applications in Seüst Professor Stefan Schweizer said. In this project, which lasts until mid-2021, he coordinated and cooperated with project partner LWL-Berufsbildungswerk Soest (a support center for the blind and visually impaired).
